Compulsory special equipments on all the roads of Savoie

The aim of these new rules is to improve the safety of all road users in the winter (icy roads or snow-covered roads). These rules also aim at limiting traffic jams or ensuring that the roads in mountainous areas are not blocked, especially in a place like Savoie. These situations may occur when the holiday traffic is heavy (at weekends) or when it snows for days on end.

Winter obligation:

From November 1st 2021 onwards, the special equipments are compulsory all winter long in some mountainous areas (48 French departments are concerned). This order (number 2020-1624 published in Journal Officiel on October 18th 2020) will apply until March 31st.

From November 1st to March 31st, every year, your car will have to be equipped with these special equipments on all the trunk roads located in Savoie.

This obligation concerns Savoie, which is a French Department and on a larger scale some towns or villages located in the French mountains (The Alps, Corsica, The Massif Central, the Jura, the Pyrenees, and the Vosges).
